How It Works

From first conversation to handover, here is what it looks like to build an earthbag structure with Earth Bag Africa.

  1. 1. First Contact & Project Idea

You reach out with your idea: home, huts, eco-lodge, community building, or something else. We get basic info: location, land size, rough budget, and timing.

  2. 2. Site Visit & Soil Check

When possible, we visit the land. We look at access roads, slope, drainage, and soil type. Soil is key – we want to know if local earth can fill the bags or if we must bring in material.

  3. 3. Concept & Design

Based on your needs and land, we sketch a concept: room layout, dome or straight walls, number of huts or units, entry points, and how the building sits in the landscape.

  4. 4. Earthbag Build

We shape the walls bag by bag. A local crew is often involved, which keeps costs down and skills in the community. You can also bring labor or help if desired.

  5. 5. Finishing & Details

We plaster, shape openings, and add details that give your building character. Roof, floors, windows, and doors can be basic or more refined depending on your budget.

  6. 6. Handover & Next Steps

Once the structure is ready, we walk it with you, explain what has been done, and talk about maintenance and any future additions you might want.

Pricing and timing depend heavily on land size, soil quality, access roads, materials already available on site, and the level of finishing you choose. Simple, strong builds are the most affordable. Highly finished “art pieces” are possible too – but the more detail, the more cost and time.
